Student "Gets the Job"

    April 28, 2016

From the preliminary rounds to the finale – “Job or No Job” has been a competition with a professional purpose.

Students from Mid-Plains Community College were invited to participate in this event sponsored by Great Plains Human Resource Management Association.  Participants completed round one with submission of a resume and cover letter that were critiqued by professionals in the Human Resources management field.  Ensuing rounds included a phone interview and an in-person interview with GPHRMA members.

Kolby Schneider, president of the organization described the goal of the contest. “This competition was designed to simulate real life activities students will experience when applying for and interviewing for employment”.

Jennifer Hanson, of North Platte, completed the contest finale on Wednesday…time spent with an industry professional in a field that Jennifer intends to pursue.   She was interviewed at NebraskaLand National Bank by Danielle Remus, Vice-President/Marketing Director.  Remus also provided Jennifer insights about pursuing a profession in marketing.

Emerging as the first “Job or No Job” winner, Ms. Hanson will receive a $500 scholarship to MPCC from GPHRMA. Jennifer is pursuing an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies at Mid-Plains Community College.

Finalist Christina Brandes, a student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Technology,  earned a $100 scholarship.
